Jackie Dinquel Obituary

Jackie C. Dinquel

Born: June 20, 1926; in Pekin, IL

Died: Feb. 13, 2015; in Peoria, IL

Jackie Camile "Jack" Dinquel, 88 of Pekin passed away at 12:52 p.m. Friday, February 13, 2015, at Lutheran Hillside Village in Peoria after a brave battle with Lewy Body Dementia.

Jack was born June 20, 1926, in Pekin, IL, to Camile and Nell (Farischon) Dinquel. He married Mary (English) Dinquel on Oct. 19, 1951, in Boston, Mass. They were married 56 years before her death on June 7, 2008.

He is survived by five children with his wife, Mary; John (Barb) Dinquel of Moline, Rita Dinquel DeSollar of Pekin; James (Lori) Dinquel of Pekin, and twins, Paul (Elaine) Dinquel of Villa Park and Elise (Fred) Zwicky of Pekin. He is also survived by a daughter, Patti (Ron) Williams; and a son, Michael Dinquel, of Washington State. Jack is also survived by 14 grandchildren, including Matthew Dinquel of Chicago, Kristina (Jake) Allbee of LeClaire Iowa; Becky Dinquel of Moline; and Kayla Dinquel of Arizona; and 11 great-grandchildren, including Gabe Robinson, Evelyn, Lydia, Sawyer and Cailin Allbee of LeClaire, Iowa; and Emma Parsons of Moline.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his stepmother, Elise Dinquel; stepfather, Revy Yard; and sister, Betty Gido.

Jack joined the U.S. Navy in 1943 at the age of 17 during World War 2 and served his country for 28 years, retiring in 1970 as a Senior Chief Petty Officer. Jack then worked 17 years as a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service in Pekin.

Lovingly known as "Papa," Jack loved his family beyond measure and was very much loved by them. When his kids were growing up, Jack was a patient coach to many Little League teams. He was a kind and loving man with a quick smile who always made time for his family and will be greatly missed by many. He enjoyed playing dartball for several years and was a fan of the Chicago Cubs.

A Celebration of Jack's life will take place from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 22, 2015, at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory, 500 N. Fourth Street, Pekin. Cremation rites have been accorded, and the U.S. Navy will conduct burial at sea with full honors.

It was Jack's wish to donate his brain to assist researchers in finding a cure for Lewy Body Dementia. This was facilitated through the non-profit Brain Support Network, P.O. Box 7264, Menlo Park, CA 94026.

Jack also was an ongoing supporter of Paralyzed Veterans of America, 801 Eighteenth Street, N.W. Washington, D.C., 20006-3517.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Jack's honor may be made to those organizations.
