Gilbert R. Wolter

Gilbert R. Wolter, 97, of Elmhurst, passed away.

Beloved husband of Vivian nee Peterson; loving father of Daniel (Peggy) Wolter, Debra (Dr. Mark) Laaser and the late Barbara Mauro; father-in-law of Dr. Joseph Mauro; grandfather of Colleen, Lindsay, Sarah, Jonathan, Benjamin, Christina, Gilbert and Michael; great grandfather of 7; brother of the late Helen Warner and Evelyn Lasater.

Gil was a devoted husband to Vivian for 71 years, and a loving and supportive parent and grandparent for his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He loved his country and served as a liaison pilot in Europe for the 179th Field Artillery Group during WWII. Gil became the director of Research and Engineering at Sunbeam Corporation, where he coordinated the development of many consumer products during his 25 year career.

He was also active in his church and community, serving as Council President for three years and organizing the annual Christmas tree program in his neighborhood for over 50 years. Gil's other interests included dancing, golf, travel and working with stained glass; and he was a longtime Cubs fan. Gil was an extraordinary person, and will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Visitation was at Ahlgrim Funeral Home, 567 S. Spring Rd., Elmhurst from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday, October 27, 2017. Memorial Services were 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 28, 2017 at Park Place of Elmhurst, 1050 S. Euclid, Elmhurst. Interment private at Mt. Emblem Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, Memorials will be appreciated for Providence Hospice, 18601 N. Creek Dr., Tinley Park, IL 60477.
