My parents started going to Dr. Lavin when he was in Bensenville, and continued after he moved his practice to Elmhurst. My wife and I continued to go to him. I was his patient from the day I was born until he retired. He was a great doctor, and a great man. I remember once, I called him with a "minor emergency". He told me to meet him at his office, even though it was closed that day. While there, I apologized for interrupting his day off. He replied that, if he weren't in the office, he'd have been building a fence, and he'd rather be in the office :-) .

I worked for Dr. Lavin from 1964 to 1972, when my family left for Arizona. At this time my sister Mary, also an R.N., succeeded me.
The statements I've seen below that he was a gentleman and a gentle man are so, so true. There are many memories that have come flooding back, as clear as if it was 53 years ago!
He was the quintessential family doctor. Although I have worked for many doctors in the ensuing years, I have never met his like. He was quiet and professional, yet warm and engaging. A truly dedicated doctor was he!
My deepest condolences to Mary Ellen and his family. May he rest in peace.

Dr. Lavin was our first doctor after we were married in 1959. After that he delivered our five children over the next four years. (twins in 1961) He was a kind and gentle man and will be remembered. Our son is a doctor at Edward and Good Samaritan Hospitals. Told him yesterday of Dr. Lavin passing. Told him that he was the first one to give him a slap on his behind but he said that was not the last and I said, that is correct.
May he rest in peace.

Dr. Lavin volunteered at the People's Resource Center for a decade. My mother Ingrid Johnson volunteered there also. My mother always praised him for his kindness, compassion and expertise. My mother also worked at Elmust Hospital in the 1960's - 1980. Once again praising this great man. My sincere condolences to his family and friends.

Dr. Lavin was never to busy to see his patient whether it was in his office and making house calls. Dr. Lavin was my family doctor when I was growing up in the late 50's 60's 70's and 80's and he was also my childrens doctor. He was really a true gentleman and a excellent family doctor something that is rare to find these days. He truly cared about all his patients and was well respected in the medical community. My condolences to his family your father was one of a kind. I was lucky to have him as my Doctor

Dr. Lavin was my family's doctor in the 1960s and 70s. I have measured every doctor I've ever had since against Doc Lavin's calm, practical, caring approach. He listened with genuine interest and compassion and went above and beyond to ensure the best treatment and well-being of his patients. His thorough, comprehensive approach saved many lives, including my mother's. My sisters and I will be forever grateful for the many years Doc Lavin added to Nancy Tuohy's life. We are also grateful for the long and dear friendship we have had with Jack and Kathy Lavin, Emily, Michael, and Katie. And we send love and condolences to them, to all the Lavin children and grandchildren, and to the very lovely Mrs. Lavin, an amazing human being in her own right. Fran's was the epitome of a life well-lived.
