Catherine m. anderson
Catherine M. Anderson, (nee Swanson), 92, beloved wife of the late George G. Anderson; cherished mother of Gary Anderson (Becky Swanson, ELCA Deacon), Carl (Linda) & Eric (Elizabeth) Anderson; proud grandmother of James (Colleen), Jonathan (Meghan) Anderson, Erica (William) Staadt & Elise (Scott) Siebert; loving great grandmother of Ashton, Luke, Collette, Bryant, Grace & Derick.
Catherine was born on March 16, 1926 to Carin and Carl Swanson at MacNeal Hospital in Berwyn and baptized at First Lutheran Church of Berwyn where she developed her strong religious faith. She graduated from Pershing Grammar School, Berwyn & Morton High School, Cicero. After graduating from high school, Catherine attended both the University of Wisconsin, Madison & University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana. While in college, she was a member of the Kappa Delta sorority & was a staunch supporter of Chief Illiniwek, who she believed represented the university with a great sense of pride, respect & honor. Upon receiving her degree in Social Sciences, she embarked on a lifelong pursuit for helping others & making this world a better place.
In her first job as a social worker in the local Chicago suburban area, Catherine strived to provide the best care & services. Little did she know that she was destined to marry her catechism classmate George. Shortly after marrying, Catherine & her husband established the family Early American furniture business, Anderson Village Manor in Berwyn. Soon after starting their successful furniture business & adding three sons to their household, they decided to build a home in LaGrange.
After the unexpected death of her husband and the fact that the store's clientele was moving westward, Catherine decided to relocate the family business to Countryside, as she continued to own & manage the business & raise her three sons. The store operated successfully for many years until a decision was made to close it in 1985.
Catherine eventually moved to Stickney where she continued to work for several years until her move to Cedar Senior Community in West Bend, Wisconsin. While at Cedar Ridge, Catherine continued to spread the good word & help others through volunteering as a liturgist for services.
All through her life, Catherine was an avid dog lover, bird watcher and a diehard CUBS fan. She loved coordinating church charity drives, exploring her Swedish culture, attending church symposiums, music recitals, scouting & sports events & other activities that her sons & grandchildren were involved in.
During the early hours of January 4, 2019, Catherine passed on peacefully with family members & Jesus at her side. Catherine will be sorely missed by her loving family, friends & the many others she helped & supported on her journey through life to make the world a better place. Catherine's greatest gift was her faith beyond hope. She "intimately knew" that Jesus was always with & by her side. Now she is immeasurably blessed & forevermore "knowing".
