Barbara Finlayson Obituary

Barbara Redman Finlayson

Barbara Julia Redman Finlayson died peacefully at home on August 15, 2017 with her children at her side.

She was born February 7, 1919 in Chicago, IL, the daughter of Gladstone Elmer Redman and Katharine Munger Redman.

She was predeceased by her husband, Ranald Archibald Finlayson; her brother, Robert Orett Redman; sister-in-law, Mary Hughes Redman and other caring in-laws.

Barbara is survived by her brother, George Latimer Redman; children, Kenneth Redman (Mary) Finlayson and Katharine Janet (Rodney) Meyer; granddaughters, Jane Barbara Finlayson (and Sol Metcalfe), Andrea Janet Finlayson, Crystal Meyer, and Rhonda Meyer; nieces, nephews, and great grandsons.

Barbara resided in Western Springs, IL for over fifty years before moving to Tinley Park, IL to live with her devoted daughter Kadi and Rodney Meyer. She attended Antioch College in Yellow Springs, OH, and later graduated from North Central College in Naperville, IL. She worked as a teacher of language arts in Western Springs, Westmont, and Naperville. Barbara was active in the Daughters of the American Revolution DAR, family genealogy, and family history including the Revolutionary War, the Civil War, women's suffrage, and women's rights. She volunteered in her church, community organizations, and Cub Scouts. She founded a chapter of the League of Women Voters in Chesterton, IN.

A service of memorial and honor will be held at the Faith United Presbyterian Church, 6200 W. 167th St, Tinley Park, IL on September 16, 3:00pm.

In lieu of flowers,contributions to the Thomas Ford Memorial Library in Western Springs, for a limestone bench in Barbara's memory, would be appreciated.
