Robert Lee Carlock

ROBERT LEE CARLOCK Robert Lee Carlock, of Emhurst and formerly of Carbondale, IL, departed this life on June 30 at age 92, at Lexington Health Care Center of Elmhurst. He was born October 7, 1920 in Carlock, IL the seventh child of William Lee and Lettitia Benedict Carlock (his siblings were Blanche, Willard, Orville, Dorthea, Louise and Maybelle). He attended Ben Funk High School and Ilinois State University in Normal before enlisting in the Army Air Corps in February1943, seeing action in Italy and North Africa during World War II before being honorably discharged in November 1945 with the rank of Tech. Sargeant. He married his college sweetheart Betty Geraldine Deapke on June 16, 1946. He graduated from the University of Illinois in 1947 with a B.S. in Business Administration. Robert served in many levels of community service throughout his career, including as Chamber of Commerce manager for Monticello, Shelbyville, Lincoln, and Streator; Southern Illinois University Community Development Department, Greater Egypt Regional Planning and Development Commission, and retired from the University of Illinois Cooperative Extension Services in 1985. Robert had volunteered with many charitable organizations throughout his career, including Lion 's Club, United Way of Carbondale, Mucular Dystrophy Association, Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. After retirement he volunteered with the Service Corps of Retired Executives (SCORE) in Carbondale. He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Carlock,on June 28, 2005 and is survived by his three daughters Maura Schumacher (Jim), Margo Carlock (Michael Henry), and Karen Fischer (Joe); sons-in-law James Schumacher, Joseph Fischer, and Michael Henry; granddaughters Sara Schumacher and Alli Fischer; and grandsons Ryan Schumacher, Matthew Henry, Josh Fischer, and Marc Henry.
