Norman R. Tranter Norman R. "Sonny " Tranter, age 80, of Elmhurst, passed away on March 13, 2014. Cherished husband of Mary Elenz-Tranter; beloved father of Divina del-Sol, Dario Tranter, Danza E. (Steven) Duffner and Shoshana (Doc) Fiala; adored grandfather "Grandpa Fuzzy " of Renee Tranter, Dylan Duffner and Ross Tranter; brother of Elaine (Robert) Clark and the late Harry Tranter. Preceded in death by half brothers and sisters, Marion (George) Krakora, Mildred (Norman) Keller, Sydney (Lorraine) Tranter, Glen (Margie) Tranter, Louis Larsen, Ellen Larsen Burns. Survived by Augusta Larsen Bennett. Fond uncle to many nieces and nephews. Korean War Veteran, Purple Heart Recipient, Bronze Campaign Star, various other awards. Family Man. Determined, courageous rehabilitation from battlefield injuries. He accomplished much despite his many challenges. Attended the University of Illinois at Navy Pier, and College of Du Page where he concentrated on Eastern Philosophy. Norman held many occupations; he worked at The Farm Club in Burr Ridge in the seventies, with handicapped and intellectually challenged teens, in the eighties and for over twelve years taught and counseled at Du Page Community School, an alternative high school for teens, where he inspired many to excel. He was formally presented the Purple Heart in a special ceremony, December, 2003, in San Antonio, Texas, with full color guard. He will be deeply missed. Visitation at Ahlgrim Funeral Home, 567 South Spring Road, Elmhurst from 3:00 P.M. until time of service at 7:00 P.M. Thursday, March 20, 2014. Private interment Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery. I am sorry to learn of Norman's death. It was my privilege to know him when he was a student at the College of DuPage. My condolences to Danza and Dario.
