Gertrude M. Arndt
Gertrude M. Arndt, nee Maurer, age 90, beloved wife of the late Thomas Arndt; loving mother of Tom (Sara) Arndt, Steve (Maria) Arndt, Alice (Tom) Heneghan, Greg Arndt and the late Phil (Mary) Arndt; cherished grandmother of Lucy and Sophie Arndt, Carrie Arndt, Tonya Arndt, Annie, Ryan and John Heneghan, Henry, Kate, Maggie and Lily Arndt.
Gertrude Arndt was a sweet soul with a loving heart. She was a pragmatist who believed in hard work, a strong faith and a devotion to family that extended beyond her five children to her eleven beloved grandchildren. Taking care of and loving her family was her number one priority. She was a gregarious, outgoing and fun loving, a woman who raised five children without ever losing her glamour.
Gertrude had a beautiful alto voice and sang professionally as a young woman with her three sisters touring the country with the Frankie Masters Band. In later life, she sang for many years with the Downers Grove Oratorio Society, Grant Park Chorus and with the choir at St. Mary of Gostyn Church in Downers Grove. Singing was one of her great loves. She also loved crime novels, family gatherings during the holidays, old-fashions, apple pie and playing Bridge with friends. She and her dear husband loved to entertain friends at home, hosting wonderful dinner parties. Together they traveled the world visiting many different countries during their 60 years of marriage.
Through all of life's challenges, Gertrude prayed every day and believed in the power of a benevolent God. A strong role model for her grandchildren, Gertrude was a woman with energy and gumption, who made her voice heard. She signed off every phone call with "I love you, honey" and that is how we will remember her - an impressive lady, who gave so much and asked so little in return.
God bless you Gertrude.
