Charles G. Wolff
Born: Oct. 17, 1919; in Chicago, IL
Died: July 18, 2014; in Littleton, CO
Charles George Wolff was born on October 17, 1919, to Adlai Stevenson Wolff and Margaret Bogner Wolff, in Chicago. He died on Friday, July 18, 2014, in Littleton, Colorado. Charles was a long-time resident of Elmhurst.
Charlie is survived by his wife of 64 years, Lorraine Rudy Wolff; his son, Charles Spencer Wolff (Kathleen Giesting); his daughter, Gail Heitland (Ron); and his grandchildren, Kevin and Julie Heitland.
He was preceded in death by his son, Bryan; his sister, Margaret; and his brother, Edward.
Charles was a WWII veteran having served in the U.S. Army Artillery as a tank driver and gunner in France, achieving the rank of Corporal. He was awarded a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star for his efforts and bore the marks of his injuries his entire life.
He was an active member of the Elmhurst T.H.B. Post #187 A.L. He married Lorraine Bernadette Rudy on April 29, 1950, after a long pursuit. Together with their friends, they formed the Solaroid Social Club, that put on events for each other. He enjoyed golf, cards, and dancing - and was known as "Honest Charlie Wolff" - always quick with a joke or to help a neighbor. Charles worked as a relay engineer for various engineering firms, and in his retirement for the Bank of Elmhurst.
In 1998, he and Lorraine moved from Chicago to enjoy the sun in Las Vegas. In 2009, they moved again - this time to Colorado, to be near their daughter and her family.
