Dr. Charles B. Van Gorder

Dr. Charles B. Van Gorder, age 92, of Chicago, former longtime Geneva resident and physician passed away Tuesday, December 18, 2012 at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago. He was born December 3, 1920 in Chicago, the son of Clyde and Gertrude (Brown) Van Gorder. Charles completed his undergraduate degree at University of Illinois where he continued on and graduated from the Medical School in 1945. He served his internship at Rush University in Chicago. Dr. Van Gorder served his country as a physician in the US Army. He had a private family practice in Geneva and was on the staff at Geneva Community Hospital until he retired in 1990. Dr. Van Gorder was known and loved by the many local families he served and will be dearly missed by everyone who knew him. He is survived by his son Dr. Mark Van Gorder of Chicago. Charles was preceded in death by his wife, Elaine Carol (Atkinson) Van Gorder; parents; sons, David Charles and Dr. Paul Norman; and his sister, Annette Vail. Visitation was held Saturday, December 29, from 1:00-4:00 pm at Malone Funeral Home, 324 East State Street (Route 38), Geneva. Funeral service and interment were held privately at Oakridge Cemetery, Hillside Illinois on Monday, December 31.
