HELEN T. ABRAMITIS Helen Theresa Abramitis (nee Ambrozy) of Bonita Shores, Florida, died peacefully in her sleep on July 18, 2013, at the age of 91. Helen was born on March 3, 1922, in Newark, New Jersey, to Peter and Dorothy Ambrozy. Helen was predeceased by her husband of 43 years, Walter W. Abramitis, and her siblings John Ambrozy, Steven Ambrozy, Jean Nowselski, and Florence Baiza. Helen spent her youth in Newark, before moving to Hillside, New Jersey. During World War II, Helen contributed to the war effort by working at the RCA plant in Newark, New Jersey. Helen married Walter in Newark in April of 1947, before moving to Ames, Iowa, where she lived with Walter while he pursued his Doctorate Degree at Iowa State University. In 1951, they moved to Downers Grove, Illinois, where they raised their family and were active members of the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge #1535. Helen and Walter moved to Bonita Shores, Florida in 1986, where they became enthusiastic supporters of the Polish American Club of Collier County. Helen volunteered at North Naples Community Hospital. In her later years she donated her hand-knit hats and booties to welcome new-born infants into this world. Helen enjoyed dancing with her husband, travel, helping others, and her family. Helen will always be lovingly remembered by her children and grandchildren. Helen is survived by her son, Robert and his wife, Donna Abramitis; her son, Richard and his wife, Mollie Abramitis; her daughter, Dorothy Abramitis and her husband, Steven McPeters; and her four grandchildren, Robert Abramitis, William McPeters, Michelle Abramitis and Charles McPeters. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00AM, Saturday, July 27, 2013, at St. Leo the Great Catholic Church, 28290 Beaumont Road, Bonita Springs, Florida. Friends are invited to meet with the family one hour prior to the service at Shikany 's Bonita Funeral Home, 28300 Tamiami Trail South., Bonita Springs, Florida. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Serving our Seniors (S.O.S.) program of the North Naples Fire Department, 1885 Veterans Park Drive, Naples, FL, 34109. This program was an invaluable resource that allowed Helen to continue to live independently, as was her desire. Helen 's family is grateful for the assistance of all of the people who gave of their time and talent so that Helen could live her life the way she chose.
