HAROLD EUGENE 'GENE ' ENGSTROM Harold Eugene "Gene" Engstrom rode his Harley to Heaven on July 25th, 2013, in Mountain Home, Arkansas. Gene was born May 25, 1930, in Chicago, the only child of Harold and Leah (Vogwill ) Engstrom. He was raised in Glen Ellyn, and spent many years living in Warrenville, West Chicago, and finally in Mountain Home, Arkansas. Gene is survived by his wife, Marilyn Selle Engstrom of Mountain Home, Arkansas; daughter, Deanna Engstrom Novicki (Rich) of Sandwich; 2 grandchildren, Cheryl and William (Bill) Novicki both of Sandwich. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his son, Rick Engstrom. Also special thoughts to Dawn Franciscy McMinn Engstrom, mother of their daughter, Deanna, and Gene 's stepsons, Alan McMinn (deceased), David McMinn (deceased), Daniel McMinn (Dotty) and Kevin McMinn (Cheri). Gene was also stepfather to Laurie Vargas (Grant Hedmark) and Lisa Virbickis. He also is survived by many step-grandchildren and step great grandchildren. During his life, Gene was employed as a police officer for the Itasca, Illinois Police Department, a deputy sheriff for the DuPage County Sheriff 's Department and retired with 25 years of service from the Illinois Department of Transportation, Highway Maintenance Dept. He was also a part time bartender for many years at the Arrowhead Golf Club in Wheaton. In his retirement years he was employed at the Jewel Food Store in West Chicago, as the friendly and fun loving guy who parceled the groceries and entertained the customers daily. Gene 's greatest passion in life was riding his Harley and sharing the open road with his wife and all of his fellow biker pals. He left us all with many great memories and shared laughter over the years. A Memorial Celebration of Gene 's life will be held on Saturday, August 24, 2013, from 1:00-4:00 p.m. at VFW Post 8031, 3S371 Mignin Dr, Warrenville, IL 60555. A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m., with the Rev. David Anderson officiating. Burial will be private in Mount Emblem Cemetery in Elmhurst.
