Sigmund Chapello Obituary

Sigmund John Chapello, 94, of Western Springs died peacefully on Tuesday, December 11. "Sig" was born January 18, 1918 in Chicago. He was one of four children born to John and Eustachia Chapello. He was preceded in death by his wife, Claire nee Verdino; his sisters, Irene Urban and Cecelia Baron. He is survived by his sister Isabelle Chapello, DO; his children, Candice (Bob) Hoyt and Craig (Margaret) Chapello; his grandchildren, Jennifer and Jeff Hoyt and Andrew and Allison Chapello, and his many nieces and nephews. Born and raised in Chicago, Sig lived in the western suburbs for fifty-five years; first in Hinsdale, where the house he built in 1957 is still standing and then in Western Springs. He was always willing to help his family or his neighbors when the need arose and was known to all for his great smile and sense of humor. Sig was an industrial engineer for twenty years, owned several businesses, and spent the last seventeen years working at McDonald's Innovation Center until just before his death. Colonel Chapello served in The Philippines and New Guinea in WWII and retired from the US Army Reserves after 37 years of active duty and reserve service. A memorial service will be held at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 139 E. First Street in Hinsdale at 3:00 PM on December 29, 2012 with visitation beginning at 1:00 PM.
