Richard Muller Obituary

Richard P. Muller, MD Born: 1923; Cedarhurst, NY Died: Nov. 28, 2013; Lake Worth, FL Richard P. "Dick" Muller, MD, formerly of Elmhurst, died November 28, 2013, in Lake Worth, Florida, of complications from Parkinson 's disease. He was 90 years old. He and his partner, James Stewart, started the first pediatric practice in Elmhurst, in 1953. He practiced medicine there for 35 years, first with Jim Stewart and later with partners, Roger Harmon, Russell Snow and Cathy Wigder. He moved to Florida after retiring in 1988. After a short period of retirement, he successfully re-qualified for his medical license, and for several years worked for the Palm Beach County Health Department, doing well baby clinics. In his second retirement he enjoyed Florida 's warm weather, explored Florida 's natural beauty and played tennis. He was born in 1923 in Cedarhurst, New York. He graduated from high school at age 16, and attended Antioch College. He was drafted by the U.S. Army in 1944. He scored in the top one percent in the intelligence test given to all new soldiers, and the army decided he should attend medical school. He started at the University of Wisconsin, and completed his medical degree there after the war ended. His internship was in Phoenix, Arizona, and then he then did a pediatric residency at the University of Chicago. He was called back into service by the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. He served in the hospital at Scott Air Force Base in East St. Louis, Illinois, from 1951 to 1953, before he was released from service and moved to Elmhurst. His marriage to Doris "Brad" Muller ended in divorce. His second wife, Shirley Muller, survives him. Also surviving are his son, Steve, (Mary); grandson, Peter, of Troy, New York; daughter, Sue, of Albuquerque, New Mexico; son, Doug, (Andrea); and grandchildren, Drew and Lindsey of Hatboro, Pennsylvania; his older brother, Larry, of Evanston, Illinois; and generations of his patients and their families who remember him fondly. The family wishes to thank the staff at the Hospice of Palm Beach County for their care and compassion during his final days.

My favorite doctor, no matter how bad I felt he would always tell me I'll be better soon. My mom would say the same thing but it always seemed better to hear it from him. Sorry to hear of his passing
