James R. Ferguson James R. "Jim " Ferguson, Jr., age 90, a resident of Naperville, IL, formerly of Downers Grove, died Monday, December 16, 2013 at Tabor Hills Healthcare Facility in Naperville. He was born May 21, 1923 in Downers Grove. Beloved husband of the late Helen K. Ferguson (nee Jeffrey), whom he married November 10, 1943; loving father of James R. (Eileen) Ferguson III of Crest Hill; Jeffery (Debbie) Ferguson of Monument, Colorado; Andy (Lynn) Ferguson of Naperville and the late John W. Ferguson; adored grandfather of Kathleen (Stephen) Stroup and James IV (Nancy) Ferguson; Michael (Terrie), Emily and Eric Ferguson; cherished great-grandfather of Patrick and Olivia Stroup, Dalton, Graham and Cassidy Ferguson, Samantha and Bradlee Ferguson; devoted son of the late James, Sr. and Rose Ferguson; dear brother of the late Rose Mae Swanson and Jeanette Ferguson Younts Diesing; fond uncle of many. Jim "Grandpa " was a 1941 graduate of Downers Grove High School. He received All-State football honors in 1940 for the Trojans. Then played football for the University of Iowa, Iowa City for two years. Jim was a decorated World War II veteran with the 104th Division (Timberwolves) of the 1st Army. He was awarded the Bronze Star, Purple Heart and received a battlefield commission of 2nd Lieutenant as a result of this actions in Holland in 1944. After his military service, he owned and operated Main Pharmacy in Downers Grove from 1951-1979. Later, he worked for the DuPage County Board of Elections Commission until retirement at age 76. Now forever at peace with his beloved Helen, and son, John. "I fine Now. " Visitation Sunday, January 5, 2013, 2:00-6:00 P.M. at Friedrich-Jones Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 44 S. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, January 6, 10:30 A.M. at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 1500 Brookdale Rd., Naperville, IL 60563, 630-355-8980, www.stapostle.org.
